The school closed in 1994 and this house was sold to Philip Alfred Price for the sum of £110,000, changing its name to ‘The Grove’. The details took some time to settle – the Land Registry records 1996 as the transfer. In the meantime the house was a target for thieves and one fireplace was removed. Philip took up unofficial residence to prevent further loss and thus preserved some valuable features.
He no doubt intended to fully restore the property but was unable to do so. He made some alterations (probably being responsible for filling in the extra doorways to the two main bedrooms on the first floor and the extra doorway to the current kitchen) but when it was sold by his widow, the house had developed extensive dry rot.
